Abstract
In this paper, a two-dimensional discrete element model based on the soft particle method has been carried out to capture the dynamical behavior of a two-dimensional granular bed impacted by a projectile penetrating it obliquely. We systematically study the influence of the projectile’s impact angle on the penetration profile of the projectile underneath the granular bed. The outcomes of the model suggest that the trajectory of the projectile exhibits a significant transition from linear to non-linear gradually with the decreasing of the projectile’s impact angle. A function that models the profiles of the projectile’s motion beneath the granular bed is also given.
