Abstract

Islamic jurisprudence in light of its political purposes

This article deals with the political considerations behind the emergence of jurisprudence in Muslim traditionso as to protect the text from political exploitation. The study also focuses on Imam Al-Shafi’I’s method of Ijtihad which mainly stands on analogy. We have also discussed the pitfalls of analogy oriented inference with an attempt to widen the scope of analogy, and the purposes of sharia so as to renew the Islamic political thought.
