Abstract

Mechanisms of TheMakhzen Measures of Sous Al-Aqsa at the End of the Nineteenth Century

This article clarifies the most important measures taken by the Makhzen to get out of the political and economic crisis that Morocco witnessed at the end of the nineteenth century. Moreover, the article shows the mechanisms adopted by the Makhzen to draw the foundations of the relationship between the center (the Makhzen Al-Hasani) and the periphery (Sous al-Aqsa) which had become a representative relationship rather than a protocol. Likewise, the "sheikhdom" was transformed into a leadership strategy aimed at social and political control over the area of Souss al-Aqsa.
