Abstract

Many foreign researches, according to the author, have contributed to the development of the Moroccan civilization. In fact, urbanism is considered as one of the most important manifestations of the city, as it consists of a very special and well designed structure as well as walls, fortifications and gates. These characteristics play an essential role in protecting the city from any external attacks. This report represents the plan followed by the researcher in writing this thesis. It mainly includes: the history of the military architecture in Fez during the Marini era; its types and characteristics. It also includes a detailed description of Fez’s architecture during the Saadi era, in terms of its characteristics and context. The researcher concluded thie present thesis by mentioning the fact that this thesis is considered as an added value to the previous studies conducted about the Moroccan cities and their historical-urban development.
