Abstract

Confined to religion, mythology and the field of the supernatural, the performative dimension of ritual practices was neglected. Looking at ritual through the prism of Performance Studies means shifting the gaze to the context, gesture, play and communication rather than focusing on the cognitive dimension of actors and the textual dimension of Aristotelian theater. It is therefore in order to understand this conceptual effervescence that breaks with the cartesian doctrine, opposing the cognitive and the social, on the one hand, and the cognitive and the action, on the other hand, that we have chosen to devote the present article to it through the performative reading of the dance of Tazouite (the bee), in order to apprehend the meanings and significances that are hidden behind this ancestral performance.
