Abstract
This paper explores the issue of the reconciliation between faith and reason in the theological thought of Sheikh Ahmadou Bamba. It attempts to elucidate the dynamics of this reconciliation by scrutinizing Koranic texts, the prophetic tradition, consensus and reasoning in order to know God and have faith in Him. Particular emphasis is placed on Sheikh Ahmadou Bamba’s interest in the reflection on the universe and its wonders, the contemplation of which is, moreover, a Koranic recommendation. It is on this momentum that Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba built his argument that the Creator of the world is necessarily provided with Attributes of sovereignty and perfection, the theorization of which is of paramount importance in his system of theological thought.
