Abstract
American post-apocalyptic films have long been rich terrains for cinematic exploration, where technology plays an ambivalent role as both an agent of destruction and a creator of a distinct cinematic genre. This study examines the investment in technology within the context of post-apocalyptic films, exploring how it contributes to the representation of human extermination while being a central element in the creation of this genre. We focus on the film The Matrix by the Wachowski siblings as the studied corpus. The aim of this article is to analyze how technology is portrayed as an existential threat contributing to the extermination of humanity in the post-apocalyptic science fiction film The Matrix.
