Abstract
The interaction between literature and linguistics must be thought of as permanent round trips: on the one hand linguistics can be useful for the study of literary texts; on the other hand, literature is itself likely to give a subject, a very rich field of investigation to linguistics. We will focus on analyzing some theories of linguistic enunciation applied to the Misguidances of the heart and mind of Crébillonfils, a memoir-novel published in 1736. Our goal was only to highlight the literarity or the poetics of the Crebillonian text through certain constants of the speech act common to the characters and the author, and to analyze the spirit that they reflect. The study of some particularly significant aspects of enunciation has brought out a dominant feature of Crébillon's speech, namely the reluctance shown by the speaker with regard to any expression that is too affirmative or too direct to be able to be revoked if necessary. The character, like the narrator, resorts to formulas that mask his identity, which present his thought with a detour, and which deliberately leave the interlocutor in doubt as to the exact meaning of his words and his true attitude on the issues they are discussing.
