Abstract

This article is intended to be an account of our scientific project, a project carried out by crossing disciplinary boundaries, going through several stages in order to achieve more decompartmentalized research, to adopt a multidisciplinary approach of stylistic, genetic and computer science. In order to approach the complex question of style in Flaubert, the one which represents the sovereign image of the writer par excellence, we followed in an initial phase a philological study, resembling the "study of genesis" in vogue at the turn of the century of the 19th and 20th centuries. After this work carried out on the notebooks of this writer, we were forced to move on to his manuscripts and to practice genetic criticism, according to a rigorous method and a more fruitful science. However, it is thanks to the stylistico-genetic approach developed in the third phase that we managed to effectively address the problem of our research centered on the aporetic and holistic questions of style and Scripture. At this stage, we have made extensive use of the contribution of digital humanities and mainly of hypertextual editing of manuscripts. Our research therefore becomes more decompartmentalized by using an approach called “forensics” based on computer technology, an essential method for processing a natively digital corpus.
