Abstract

- Fenestration systems, such as windows, doors, and skylights, play a crucial role in improving thermal comfort and reducing energy consumption in buildings. In Egypt, the energy code establishes standards for fenestration systems to promote energy efficiency and carbon emission reduction. Residential buildings account for a significant portion of total energy consumption, making the optimization of fenestration systems essential. This research focuses on studying the optimization of fenestration systems in Egyptian residential buildings through parametric analysis, considering energy standards and their impact on total energy gain and thermal comfort. The paper examines existing energy codes for fenestration systems and explores their implementation to enhance energy efficiency. Furthermore, different optimization scenarios are investigated to determine their effects on overall thermal comfort. The results of this study will be beneficial to architects and decision makers, providing insights into the design and selection of proper fenestration systems. Optimizing fenestration systems is important for improving thermal comfort, reducing energy consumption, and mitigating climate change impacts in Egyptian residential buildings. As the world focuses on addressing the global climate crisis, particularly at the COP 28 summit, it is imperative to prioritize fenestration system optimization in residential buildings in order to contribute to sustainable architectural practices.
