Abstract

The domestic refrigerator is one of the most home appliance used and the enhancement in its performance will has a significant effect on energy saving and environment. Preserving food at low and uniform temperatures is especially important to avoid Food spoilage and decreases the microorganisms. The aim of this study is to investigate numerically a different duct shapes to achieve an efficient cooling in the refrigerator and keep the temperature at the required range, using software called SIMULIA. The numerical model was developed to simulate the refrigeration system accurately, porous media and heat balance techniques were combined to the conservation equation to simulate the exact boundary conditions for the refrigerator system with evaporator and multi duct system. The model is validated by experimental results (top-freezer refrigerator SJ-GV63G) with an accepted agreement between them. In sequence, the effect of three different duct shapes were studied numerically; R2 1/3 W × 2/3 H, R3 1/3 W × 1/3 H and R4 1W×1H. The model combines surface areas for R1 keep same original design. The result shows that the best temperature uniformity is found in case 3.
