Abstract

Abstract. As far as Elmessiri's translation process is concerned, it can be seen that he considered the influence of power and ideology and its influence on the translation of the Arab world. He tried to solve the problem and understand the words in the context, rather than impose them. The purpose of this paper is to show how out-side text elements such as the historical, cultural, political, and philosophical backgrounds of terminology, can affect translation process and lead to re-thinking about world-known translated terminology. Elmessiri choices in translation are taken as a sample for this research. This study demonstrates some examples of Elmessiri's translations of World-known terminology, including Jewish History, Anti-Semitism, World Zionism, Zionism, Settlements, Holocaust, World Wars, Age of Discovery, and Crusades. This study concludes that out-side text elements are valuable, and might be used in the works that agree with his views, whereas translating terminology of works that disagree with his views into his choices might be misleading.
