Abstract

The research aims to measure the efficiency of the design of a learning unit in the maintenance of flat machine for sewing shoes , for the cognitive and skill acquisition needed by the students of the fourth grade - Department of Leather Industries - Faculty of Home Economics, Helwan University - and their number is (8). The learning unit was applied to all fourth-grade students due to their limited small number, where the scenario was prepared using the multimedia according to the scientific basis and modern learning strategies, and then presented to the students and measured the efficiency of using the learning unit through instructional videos for the maintenance of the flat knitting machine for the students’ cognitive acquisition and skill performance. The research tools included a pre and post cognitive acquisition to measure the extent to which students have acquired theoretical knowledge and concepts related to the maintenance of a flat knitting machine, a skill test to measure the extent to which students acquired skills for flat knitting machine maintenance, and a rating scale to evaluate the results of the skill test performance. The results of the research resulted in: The presence of statistically significant differences at the level of significance (0.01) for the post cognitive acquisition test, as well as the presence of statistically significant differences at the level of significance (0.01) for the skill performance in the students’ post skill acquisition test of flat knitting machine maintenance. This confirms the efficiency of using the learning unit through the instructional videos in acquiring the knowledge and skills for the maintenance of a flat knitting machine, and among the most important recommendations in the light of the outcome of this research, is the application of the learning unit through the content of the machine maintenance course for all grades in the leather industries department, benefiting from the proposed learning unit and the programs that have proved to be effective in the field of shoe machine maintenance in the learning of students of the leather industries department in the faculties of home economics and specialized colleges, benefiting from the results of the current research and trying to apply them in designing and producing learning units for other aspects of the courses that serve the field of specialization in the interest of the student.
