Abstract

Scientific phenomena constituted an important aspect in the development of design research and designers’ orientations in form and subject matter. Musical – Chromatic synesthesia is one of the scientific phenomena that have been discovered as a result of the accelerating scientific transformations of the era of modernity and the emergence of techniques that contributed to its study and detail in several scientific and technical fields. It is a strange phenomenon that revealed the possibility of the uniting of the senses by using more than one sense at the same time, where the non-visual (auditory) stimulus causes the individual to perceive color, so hearing musical tones leads to the appearance of colors and moving shapes, and from here the research problem is determined in how to invest the visual data for this phenomenon (color, shape, movement) to find experimental starting points in constructing contemporary designs, where the research aims to reveal the diversity of visual data of the phenomenon of chromatic musical sensory accompaniment according to the different characteristics of the musical sound to present and propose experimental solutions that enrich the construction of contemporary designs. Significance: The importance of the research is determined by: Orienting the vision of the designer and art student to the importance of scientific phenomena and relying on them in renewing the vision of contemporary designs; Considering the principle of experimentation as one of the important principles to find solutions that enrich the construction of contemporary designs. Methodology: The research has followed both the descriptive analytical approach in the theoretical aspect and the experimental approach in the practical aspect, by addressing the research to the concept of the phenomenon of musical chromatic synesthesia and the physical foundations of the phenomenon, and the plastic and expressive associations that represent the musical sound in color to the experiences of people with personal synesthesia, and the experiences of people with synesthesia Sensory origin, and systems for converting music into colors from mechanical tools, displays, installations and electronic software, ending with a presentation of the characteristics of the musical sound and its formal and chromatic representation, then performing subjective artistic applications on the subject of the research, , Results are: The diversity of the visual data of the phenomenon of chromatic musical sensory accompaniment according to the different characteristics of the musical sound; The difference in the chromatic and formal representation of music according to the type of music, its characteristics, and the instruments that make it up. Among the recommendations, to conduct more research on the phenomenon of sensory synesthesia, due to its many forms, which can be useful in developing design experiments; and Searching for new formal and color structural approaches to design through the study of scientific phenomena.
