Abstract

This study aimed to address the problem of 10th grade students’ weakness in reading maps in geography in Palestine through developing a computerized tutorial based on interactive multimedia and blending it into student learning of a unit on (The continent of Latin America). The study sample consisted of schools in Nablus: one female school and one male school. Two sections were randomly selected from each school. The first section represented the experimental group (57 items: 28 male & 29 female) which was taught by the tutorial while the second one represented the control group (56 items: 29 male & 27 female) that was taught by the traditional method. At the end of the experimentation, the two groups sat for an achievement test which aimed at measuring students’ skills in reading maps. The results revealed that the experimental group scored better than the control group as there was a significant positive effect of blending the computerized tutorial into the skill of reading maps among the students who learn geography. The results, furthermore, revealed that there were no statistically significant differences at between the mean scores of both the experimental group and the control group due to the interaction between method of teaching and gender.
