Abstract

The study aimed at identifying the effect of employing the modeling strategy on developing reading comprehension skills among fourth grade students. The study used the experimental method and the sample used consisted of (82) fourth grade students, divided into two groups: the experimental group consisting of (41) female students who studied according to the modeling strategy, and the control group consisting of (41) female students who studied according to the usual method. After applying the reading comprehension test, the results of the study revealed that there were statistically significant differences at (0.05) level between the two mean scores of the control group students and the experimental group students in the post-reading comprehension test. These differences were big and in favor of the experimental group. There also were statically significant differences between the mean scores of the experimental group and control group at the direct literal comprehension level and no differences in the deductive or critical thinking were revealed. In the light of these findings, the researcher recommended focusing on reading comprehension skills and using the modeling strategy in promoting these skills
