Abstract

The aim of this study was to identify the level of conflict between profession and family roles and the forms of communication with patients among physicians in Jordan. Furthermore, the study aimed at exploring if the level of the conflict of profession and family roles and the forms of communication with patients differ in light of various variables such as gender, marital status, job description, and level of education. It also aimed to identify to which extent the conflict between profession and family roles could predict the level of communication with patients. The study sample consisted of (393) physicians, selected by the available sampling method. The results showed that the level of the conflict between profession and family roles among physicians in Jordan was intermediate, and that the level of the communication between physicians and patients in Jordan was high. The results also showed statistically significant relationship between the conflict of profession and family roles and the communication forms among physicians, and statistically significant differences between the means of the dimensions of the profession and family role conflict due to the job description in favor of the resident physicians. In addition, the results showed that there were no statistically significant differences between the means of profession and family role conflict and the level of communication due to gender, marital status, job description, or the level of education. The results also showed that there were statistically significant differences between the means of the forms of communication due to gender in favor of the male physicians, the job description in favor of the resident physicians, and the level of education in favor of the physicians with Bachelor degree, and also there were no statistically significant differences due to marital status.
