Abstract

The phonatic changes which occur to happen in the field of defective roots considered to be a problem in the Arabic language. For example, the sound which is situated in a certain position in a root doesn’t have the same form in the forms that are derived from the same root that is some forms occur to appear including long vowles, others short vowels and others semi-vowels. This study provides us with a new view that explains these changes. This view is basically based on assuming that the roots of the changing defective verbs include long vowels and not semi vowels. It’s worth noting that the phonetic variattions which result from the recurrence of a group of vowels are directed according to a set of phonetic rules. These phonetic rules depend on the nature of phonetic and syllabic closeness with no regard to any of those known hypotheses concerning this issue. No attention should be paid to those conditions that are out the domain of the basic formula such as likening one form with another or changing the position of the diacritic marks so that we would be able to avoid the ambiguity.
