Abstract

The research aims at discussing and verifying an endless issue among Muslim scholars concerning contraptions (bid’ah). The research argues two main opinions: the first tolerates the good contraption (bid’ah hasanah) and the other refuses it. The research contains three main chapters. The first talks about the meaning and significance of contraption in Islamic authorized system, chapter two discuses the divisions of contraption and the third contains the discussion of the opinions and the conclusion. It is worth mentioning in this research that there is an intermediate opinion in this issue and this –the researcher argues- is what is new in this question.

The researcher concluded with several recommendations and suggestions, the most important of which is that the dispute among Muslim jurists is only in the description of the term bid’ah and not in the meaning of contraption (bid’ah) itself. The researcher also urges to close the doors for those who called for contraptions since many of them confuse between the term bid’ah and the term sunnah –the traditions of the prophet Muhammad peace be upon him.
