Abstract

The study attempted to identify the effect of the use of concrete teaching aids in the immediate and deferred achievement in the teaching of the Science unit entitled «Tools» for female third graders.

The sample of the study was divided into two groups: an experimental group (42), who were taught by using the concrete teaching aids, and a control group (40) who were taught by using the usual technique.

An achievement test was administered to both groups. The test consisted of (20) items, most of which were of the multiple choice type.

The researcher used Pearson’s Coefficient, the Independent Samples t-test as well as the Paired Samples t-test.

The results of the study showed that there were statistically significant differences between the third graders’ mean scores with regard to immediate and deferred achievement in the Science unit entitled «Tools» for both groups for the benefit of the experimental group. This result is attributed to the use of the concrete teaching aids with the experimental group.

The results also revealed statistically significant differences between the third graders’ mean scores with regard to the immediate and deferred achievement of the control group in the Science unit entitled «Tools» for the benefit of the immediate test. Likewise, statistically significant differences were revealed for the experimental group on the immediate test.
