Abstract

This research tackles an essential syntactic notion that was simplified by linguists in many references. In fact, linguists have different views on this notion that is represented in the occurrence of the subject as indefinite in certain constructions. Some linguists advocated that freely, whereas others, who allowed that occasionally, attempted to find excuses and cases in which it is allowed to use indefinite subjects.

What causes such interest in studying such notion is the differences that appeared as a result of the syntactians’ attempts to identify and limit such excuses and cases. Some linguists presented two cases in which it is allowed to use an indefinite subject. On the other hand, others talked freely about more than forty cases. That prompted the reasearcher to studying this notion in an attempt to discuss the different syntactic views and bridge the gap between the linguists by reducing differences among them.
