Abstract
The study aimed at recognizing the level of the job satisfaction in the directorates of education in The West Bank according to following variables: the gender, job, academic qualification, years of experience, and the directorate that the employee works in. Also, the study aimed at recognizing the levels of job satisfaction of the employees according to each each one of the domains satisfaction: the satisfaction with the administration, the satisfaction with the systems and laws, the satisfaction about circumstances and the work nature, the satisfaction about the salary and the incentives, the satisfaction about the relation with the colleagues, the satisfaction with the job security, the satisfaction with the social position, and the satisfaction about the health state.
This study has followed the analytic descriptive method which suits this kind of studies. The population of the study is (1059) employees who works in the Ministry of Education and Higher Education directorates in The West Bank according to the Ministry sources for the year 2005. The sample was chosen randomly and it consisted of (245) individuals with a percentages of (23%) from the original population, distributed among three directorates: Nablus directorate representing the north region, Ramallah directorate representing the middle region, Hebron directorate representing the south region. To achieve porposes of the study, the researcher used a questionnaire consisting of (77) items.
The results of the study revealed that the general job satisfaction level in the directorates of educations in The West Bank was below the average (2.98), according to Likert Scale which consists of five parts, and that is about all the satisfaction domains in the study in general. It also showed that their satisfaction highest degree was as the following according to the descending order: the relation with the colleagues came first, the administration, the social status and the social position, the systems and the laws, circumstances and the work nature, the job security, the health state, the salary and the incentives came last .
The study results showed that motivation to work in the directorates of education in The West Bank was in general over the average, where the average reached (3.86) according to Likert Scale which consists of five parts, and that the respect of the employee and their appreciation of themselves is the most important motive of the work.
The results showed no significant differences at the indication level (α = 0.05) in the level of the job satisfaction among the employees of the directorates of education in The West Bank according to gender, academic qualification, and the years of experience variables, while the results pointed to the presence of differences at the indication level (α = 0.05) in the level of the job satisfaction in the directorates of education in The West Bank according to job, and the directorate that the employee works at(place of work) variables.
The study came up with many recommendations, they are as the follows: The Ministry of Education and Higher Education should take great interest in the degree of job satisfaction for the administrative staff by applying fair systems to promotions an motivations. Also they should re-study the laws concerning the job security. Also they should develop the administrative staff through specialized training courses according to their needs, applying a good health insurance like that which applied in the developed countries. Regulations and instructions should be modernized to suit the needs of the current situations and employees.
