Abstract


The purpose of this study is to identify the implication extent of environment concepts in the primary national and social textbook in Jordan. To achieve the study goal, 5th ,7th ,and 9th national and social textbook content was analyzed by scanning relevant environment concepts. The authors depended on the paragraph as analysis unit in their analysis of the National and social education textbooks (study sample). To find out the results, frequencies, and percentages were used to answer questions one, two and four, and Kroksal-Wallace test was employed. Results from this study showed that textbook under study were not void of environment concepts and stressed on the need to insert more of such concepts in order for students to be familiarized with the environment concepts ; environment concepts appeared sequentially on the primary level (5th,7th, and 9th grades); appropriateness to the age group; had practical role in the family-school, neighborhood-school relations, and called for a generation with moral and value-based knowledge to maintain the environmental resources. Recommendations from this study stressed on the direct communication between those concerned and government agencies and national and social textbook authors regarding environment reservation efforts. The study encourages more voluntary associations in various governorates in the kingdom to work on applying such concepts in the schools and universities.
