Abstract

The study aims to shed light on the reality of university education in Palestine, to reveal the shortcomings in the university educational system and to identify the basic requirements for the treatment of deficiencies in the higher educational system in Palestine. The study addressed an issue of economy and society of knowledge economy and its characteristics. Then that has been linked to the development of teaching methods as a basis for building a knowledge society. The researcher used the analytical approach to diagnose the current state of university education in Palestine. The study found a set of conclusions: -The knowledge society is a challenge for all developing countries, including Palestine. -This challenge can be overcome as much as there is a high level of awareness in the community. -There should be a cultural and linguistic balance to the extent that allows it to cope with the civilized international ladder. -University higher education is considered a fundamental pillar for strengthening the society and the knowledge economy provided that the structure and the university educational system fit the modern technical trends. As the quality of higher education has become the objective measurement for the graduates participation in the development of society and working in local, Arab and international institutions. The researcher came up with a series of recommendations that aims at developing methods of education in the Palestinian universities, including: The need to increase the governmental spending on university education by increasing their allocations within the budget, and to show commitment to spend this allocation in order to enable universities to implement the plans of development and technological growth. In addition, there should be a clear mechanism for the integration of the Palestinian universities and interdependence through following a unified system that provides a way of information exchange, experienced academic staff exchange. Moreover, there should be work on expanding this integration to be on a regional and international level.
