Abstract


This study aimed at identifying the degree of practicing leadership skills among educational counselors from their own perspective and from their supervisor’s perspective. In order to answer the questions of the study, an “educational counselors leadership skills scale” was constructed with accepted validity and stability indicators. The scale then was applied among the sample of the study which was chosen intentionally from all the male and female educational counselors working in Al Ferwaneiha and Al Jahrah Educational Area at the state of Kuwait through the first semester of the 2012/2013 educational year. The educational counselors participated in this study were (330), also the study consisted of (10) female supervisors and they were randomly selected from state of Kuwait Educational Areas. The results of the study indicated that the degree of practicing the leadership skills among the Kuwaiti educational counselors -either from the perspective of the counselors or from their supervisors- among all the dimensions of the scale was high. Further more, the results showed statistically significant differences in the degree of practicing the leadership skills among the Kuwaiti educational counselors due to the Sex in favor of the female counselors. Another statistical significant difference between the counselors were resulted in this study in the degree of practicing the leadership skills regarding the years of experience, the educational counselors with an experience less than 5 years were practicing more leadership skills than educational counselors with (5-10) years of experience, and the results revealed that the educational counselors with an experience above 10 years were practicing more leadership skills than their peers with an experience range from (5-10) years. On the other hand, the results indicated that there were no statistically significant differences in the degree of practicing leadership skills due to counselor’s scientific certification.
