Abstract
The study is about the Charity (Takaya) of Prophet Ibrahim Al-Khalil (PBUH) in the city of Hebron, in Palestine, in the 10th century AH/16th century AD, the date when Palestine became part of the Ottoman Empire.
The study investigates the Takaya in terms of its establishment, resources, type and quantity of food it provides for the needy people, staff, and management.It also explores the role of this Charity in sustaining an important social group, especially the destitute.The study draws heavily on the records of the Sharia Court of Jerusalem, which are perceived as essential in reading the history during the Ottoman Empire.
