Abstract


The present study aims to identify the counseling skills of the trainees counselors as perceived by trainees counselors and cooperative counselors in yarmouk University, and to find out the differences between the counseling skills depending on the variables: gender, and qualification. Subjects were (348) counseling trainees and (348) cooperative counselors. To achieve the objective of the study, two scales of counseling skills were constructed, one was used to counseling trainees, and the other was for the cooperative counselors, which meets the requirements of appropriate validity and reliability. The results revealed that the level of counseling skills was moderate from counseling trainees perspectives and from cooperative counselors. There were statistical significant differences from trainees perspectives in counseling skills due to gender in favor of female trainees in group counseling domain, and there were statistical significant differences from trainees perspectives in counseling skills due to qualification in favor of M.A degree trainees in preparing for counseling program, diagnosis and treatment domains. In addition, there were statistical significant differences from cooperative counselors perspectives in counseling skills due to gender in favor of male trainees in preparing for counseling program domain, and there were statistical significant differences from cooperative counselors perspectives in counseling skills due to qualification in favor of M.A degree trainees in diagnosis and treatment, and group counseling domains.
