Abstract

The study aimed to measure the level of narcissism in a sample of university students, through the development of an Arabic version of the measure of Narcissistic Personality Inventory Scale (NPI). It also tried to examine the significance of differences between the levels of each of: Gender, GPA, faculty, and level of study on Narcissism. The data were collected from 344 male and female undergraduate students from different academic levels at al-Zarqa University in Jordan in the academic year 2012/2013.
The study found an Arabic version of the NPI Scale with acceptable Psychometric properties; where the correlations between the items responses and the total score is statistically significant at the level of significance α = 0.05, and the differences between the responses of the two groups (upper and lower) are statistically significant at the level of significance α = 0.01 for all items. The results of factor analysis showed that the Arabic version of the measure narcissistic personality is unidimension.
The study found that the questionner has good internal consistency, where the value of the Cronbach Alpha = 0.877, and the value of the Spearman correlation coefficient = 0.836. The results indicated that there were significant differences (α= 0.05) for each of the variables: Gender, GPA, and level of study, and not statistically significant for faculty.
