Abstract

The upcoming FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup, to be the most important sports event ever held in Jordan as well as in the region, The purpose of this study was to identify the pre-event image of the World women’s Cup for interest in attending games, and to find out if there are differences in the perception of the respondents In addition, the influence of age, gender, economic level, on the images and interest in attending matches, and to find out the assumed legacy of sports events for local com-munities and for the women in particular by focusing on sports practice. Since the most enthusiastic fans should be the youth, the researchers conducted a study on 240 re-spondents, half of them males, to find out the pre-event perceptions of the women’s world cup, sup-posed to be held in Jordan in just two months. The study revealed that just three of the respondent know the exact date of the event, while most of them looking to the event as a recreation occasion more than opportunity to learn from, while the majority considered the event as an inspiration to be proud off more than a motivation to improve their physical level practice. This study concluded that the primary goal of attendance such mega sport events wouldn’t be the en-gagement in sport activity participation, while the national pride could be the most potential positive impact of organizing such events.(6579)
