The Effectiveness of Using Al Hodhud Application to Teach Reading Skills in Arabic as a Second Language in the International Baccalaureate System for Kindergarten Students

Abstract

هدفت الدراسة التعرف إلى فاعلية تطبيق "الهدهد" في تنمية مهارات القراءة باللغة العربية كلغة ثانية لدى طلبة رياض الأطفال في برنامج البكالوريا الدولية، وقد أجريت الدراسة في مدرسة المواهب الإنجليزية في محافظة العاصمة عمان في الأردن خلال الفصل الدراسي الثاني من العام الدراسي 2022-2023. ولتحقيق أهداف الدراسة تم استخدام المنهج شبه التجريبي، وتم اختيار مجموعة الدراسة عمدياً، وتألفت المجموعة من (40) طفلاً من مرحلة رياض الأطفال، وتألفت العينة من مجموعة واحدة درست استخدام تطبيق الهدهد، وتم تطبيق الاختبار القبلي والبعدي، وبعد تطبيق الدراسة وإجراء التحليل الإحصائي أظهرت نتائج فاعلية تطبيق الهدهد في تنمية مهارات القراءة باللغة العربية كلغة ثانية، وأظهرت النتائج فاعلية تطبيق الهدهد في تنمية مهارات القراءة الكلية، ومهارة القراءة الجزئية في اللغة العربية كلغة ثانية لدى طلبة رياض الأطفال في نظام البكالوريا الدولية. كما كان التأثير قوياً في اختبار مهارات القراءة في اللغة العربية، وأشارت النتائج إلى وجود فروق ذات دلالة إحصائية (α≤0.05) بين متوسطي الاختبار القبلي والبعدي، لصالح الاختبار البعدي ومع الأخذ بعين الاعتبار النتائج. وأوصت الدراسة بعقد ورش عمل تدريبية لمعلمات رياض الأطفال حول تنفيذ التطبيقات التربوية المتخصصة في تعليم اللغة العربية، من خلال تعليم الأطفال مهارات القراءة

The study aimed to identify the effectiveness of the “Al Hodhud” application in developing reading skills in Arabic as a second language among kindergarten students in the International Baccalaureate program. The study was conducted at English Talents School in the capital's governorate, Amman, Jordan, during the second semester of 2022-2023. The semi-experimental approach was used to achieve the study's objectives, and the study group was selected intentionally. The group consisted of 40 children from the kindergarten stage. The sample consisted of one group that studied the usage of the Al Hodhud; the pre-and post-test was applied. After applying the study and conducting a statistical analysis, it showed the effectiveness of the Al Hodhud in developing reading skills in Arabic as a second language. The results showed the effectiveness of the Al Hodhud in developing total reading skills and the skill of partial reading in Arabic as a second language among kindergarten students in the International Baccalaureate system. Also, the impact was strong in testing reading skills in Arabic. The results indicated statistically significant differences (α≤0.05) between the averages of the pre-and post-test, in favor of the post-test and considering the results. The study recommended holding training workshops for kindergarten teachers on implementing educational applications specialized in teaching Arabic by teaching children reading skills
