Abstract

This study aimed to determine the levels of marital satisfaction and its relationship with the way of selecting a partner, education for both spouses, occupation, number of children, and number of marriage years. It also aimed to identify areas of satisfaction. Satisfaction were measured among a sample of married couples in Amman city. The sample consisted of (179) husband and wife; adults marital satisfaction scale were used in this study.The results of the study showed that there were (66%) of respondents who have a high level of marital satisfaction, and the means of marital satisfaction was higher than default mean. (77%) of the respondents have chosen there partner in the traditional way. Also the study found differences in marital satisfaction after assessing the partner in favor of the traditional marriage. There were differences in marital satisfaction according to the variables of occupation, age and number of years of marriage. Linear regression analysis showed that the occupation had a predictive capability in marital satisfaction as a whole and in the dimensions of problem solving and communication. Based on these results, the study recommended a number of recommendations such as encourage wives to work either in government job or privet projects because of the importance of the jobs in marital satisfaction
