Abstract

This current study aimed to explore the availability of the knowledge depth levels, targeted by the present study, in the secondary school biology books (1, 2, 3, Syllabus System). The researcher developed a list of the levels of depth of knowledge indicators which could be included in the targeted biology books and utilized the descriptive analytical method for fulfilling the study purpose. The results of the study revealed that the levels of recall and knowledge production in the biology books (1, 2, 3) came first as their percentages in biology books were (41%), (41.2%), (40.8%), respectively, followed by the level of concepts and skills application in the second place, and its percentages in biology books were (35.7%) (35%), (35.3%). The level of extended thinking came in the third place, and its percentages in biology books were (16.2%) (18.1%), (16.7%); then, the level of strategic thinking in the fourth and final place, and its percentages in biology books were (7%) (5.7%) and (7%) which was very low level. The results of the study showed that there were statistically significant differences in the levels of knowledge depth among the biology books in favor of the biology book (1) compared to the other biology books (2 &3). The study concluded with portraying some recommendations and further research in light of the results attained.
