Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the effect of using infographics in teaching social studies on the academic achievement of 8th grade students, and it revolved around two fundamental questions: (1) how does the use of infographics in social studies effect the academic achievement of 8th grade students?, and (2) are there significant statistical differences between the average score of students who learned with infographics and students who did not? In order to achieve the main goal of this study, an experimental research study was designed and conducted on 56 participants who were distributed equally into two main groups—an experimental group and a controlled group. The former group was taught with infographics, whereas the latter one was taught traditionally without it. Furthermore, a test that measures students’ achievement or knowledge was used as an instrument to collect the data for this study, and it was expertly examined and confirmed for its validity and reliability. In analyzing the data, the researcher used Mann-Whitney test in order to compare the differences between the two groups, and look if there is a significant differences between them. The results of the study showed a positive impact of using infographics on grade eighth students in social studies. The average of the experimental group (infographics) test scores was 4.18 in the achievement test, where it exceeded the average of the other group (control/traditional) test scores which was 2.25. The findings also revealed significant differences with statistics indication in the level of 0.01 between the average of the students’ scores in the experimental group and the traditional group in the achievement test in favor of the experimental group which studied using the infographics. Based on the study results, the researcher introduced some recommendations.
