Abstract

The aim of this study is to identify the availability of the requirements of applying the practices of Knowledge Economy from the point of view of home economics teachers the high school level, as well as to reveal the differences in the degree of availability of the requirements of the application of the practices of the Knowledge Economy from the point of view of high schools’ home economic teachers, in the State of Kuwait depending on the years of experience, the number of attended training sessions, and the school district.

This study was applied on a sample of (300) high school home economic teachers in the six school districts in Kuwait. The researcher used a questionnaire for the application of Knowledge Economic practices from the point of view of home economic teachers in high school which comprise of (42) items divided into four areas: preparing learners for knowledge, development of thinking skills, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), and cooperative work.

The results revealed that the degree of availability of the requirements of applying the practices of the Knowledge Economy from the point of view of High school home economic teachers in Kuwait is high. The study found the presence of a significant statistical difference in the degree of availability of requirements to the practices of the Knowledge Economy from the point of view of the high school home economic teachers according to their years of experience in favor of highly experienced teachers. The study also found a presence of a significant statistical difference in the degree of availability of requirements to the practices of the Knowledge Economy from the point of view of the high school home economic teachers according to their attendance to training sessions where teachers with higher attendance show more degree of availability of the requirements of applying the practices of the Knowledge Economy. The study found no statistically significant differences in the degree of availability of requirements for the application of the practices of the knowledge economy from the point of view of high school teachers according to their school district.

This study recommended the need to prepare training programs based on the skills of the knowledge economy to enhance the cognitive performance of high school home economic teachers and then transfer the impact of that knowledge within the classroom. Also, the study recommended the review of the training programs by the Ministry of Education (MOE) in Kuwait to make it more relevant to teachers’ professional needs.
