Abstract

The study aims to investigate literature as a source of forming the perfect image of the prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and Islam as seen by the Europeans and Westerners in general. The study attempts to convey the true image of the prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and his message to change and correct the distorted image of Islam, the prophet Muhammad (pbuh), and his followers.

To achieve this goal, the study highlights the other image of prophet Muhammad (pbuh) which is a pure and shining one as it was presented by great Western poets like Pushkin, Goethe, Coleridge, Rilke, Hugo, Bunin and Lorca. This image is explored by comparing and contrasting the true image with the stereotypical and distorted one. The study concludes that the sources of knowledge about Islam and the prophet Muhammad (pbuh) are to be correctly determined. Also, these sources must be corrected; and their falsification and distortion must be disclosed.
