Abstract

This study aimed at identifying the factors affecting the phenomenon of school violence in Some Schools of Jordan. To achieve the aim of this study, some interview samples have been designed. The sample of the study consisted of (16) female and male students who were intentionally picked out from some scholastic incident records belonging to the departments of the educational guidance in the Educational Directorates of Jordan for the scholastic year 2006. The following are the most prominent results of this study:- - The rise in the rate of the behavioristic violations of the subjects of the study. This rate was (%66) for male students and (% 60) for female ones. - The scholastic acquirement decline of the sample of the study. This low-level attainment ranged from the intermediate to the low levels amongst the majority of the subjects. - The suitability of the scholastic environment to the subjects of the study in general. As to the teachers' capability of the classroom management. %31.25 of the study subjects said that teachers are unable to control the class. %68 of the students said that their teachers were able to manage the class quite well. %70 of them said that they were exposed to a form provocation by their teachers. - Most of the study's subjects suffered from bad family conditions such as parental polygamy, the death of one of the parents, the existence of prior family violence cases, the lack of care....etc. - The low living standards and the bad financial condition of the family which may affect the students psychologically and then lead to various forms of school violence. It is also worth saying that % 12.5 of the subjects lives in rented houses. - The peer group plays a role in school violence. %20 of the male subjects reported the participation of the peer group in the cases of violence as well as in its instigation. - The week relationship between the school and the students' families. The study showed that only %20 of the parents follow up their children via some school visits or some telephone call. The study has made several recommendations. The most important ones include :- The importance of activating the role of the educational guide more efficiently. Also, emphasizing the follow-up practices on the part of the parents. Then the preventive treatment of the students who suffer from hard family conditions or from delinquent personal and psychological traits. Finally, the study recommends some teachers to shun the wrong provocation practices towards their students.
