Abstract
The study aims to study the reality of the professional competencies required to prepare school teachers of the basic stages and the ways to improve them in the light of the modern trends in education in relevance to the following variables: gender, qualifications and years of experience. For this reason a questioner of (55) questions was built up and distributed among a sample of (195) teachers (males and females).The study showed that the total results were high in the five fields of the study where the field of cognitive competence obtaining the highest rank (with a high rate) and the field of skills competence having the lowest rank (with medium rate).The study also revealed that teachers’ professional competencies can be improved by improving their employment status through improving their prestige their living standards. The study showed no statistical differences in SMA relating to the following variables: gender, qualification and years of experience
