Abstract
This research aims to define the concept of modernity, and the most prominent features of modernist methodology in dealing with heritage and the history, including religion and culture, and to reveal briefly the history of the emergence of modernism , then to show the most prominent foundations of modernism from which all modernist theories and ideas were launched.
The research also showed that the basis of the problem of modernism is the animosity between scientists of empirical science and the church through the church’s domination of its myths over scientists.
The study concluded that the basis of modernism was built on maximising the human mind and starting from it on the basis that it is the criterion of absolute truth, and that man is the only source for acquiring knowledge through research and experiment, without the need , they claim, for any external source such as the divine religion, as well it stems from the sanctification of science and it separates of religion from the areas of life
