Dimensions of Transcendence in Quranic Discourse: Surat Al-Waqi`ah as a Model

Abstract

This paper aims at discussing the dimensions of the transcendence discourse in Al-Waqi`ah Sura trying to explore its concept, which is a supreme discourse in which there is power and determination that transcends the addressee to the highest levels of eminence and supremacy in thought and truth by way of challenge and excitement. It is the one who addresses the recipient in all its dimensions, such as whether having a response, the answer, or the compatibility with it. It is different from controversy, as the controversy has the tone of argument and debate, while the transcendence does not allow the recipient to answer, as he/ she only receives and is docile to him, unable to respond or debate. The Source employs words, actions and pronouns that reinforce the context and direct it, and decorate this with colours of rhythm and tone of voice, which highlight its dimensions and the bell of its sounds. Further, the pronouns are especially emphasized revolving them according to speech requirement in the presence and absence, raising the matter of the addressee or neglecting. Thus, the image of Al-Waqi`ah Sura, in its tokens, embodies that transcendence and its concept
