Abstract
The footnotes of Mahmoud Shakir formed a large part of the book At-Tabaqaat (Classes), which contains visible critical and scientific signs. However, these signs have not been studied in spite of their significance and position among scholars for creating the method of appreciation and reading. The study aims at exploring them and highlighting Shakir's role as a critic, who has his own approach. The study also discusses what is more than the text and what errors or response can be corrected, including the increase, language correction, control of names and events, as well as language dictionaries. In addition, the study deals with Shakir's response to the scholars of literature and science and what he focused on and his approach of checking news and appreciating texts. His ethical consideration and superiority over investigators appeared as he created the reading method, which demonstrated him as a reliable critic in his knowledge and confident transmission of what he said in every part he took and did not find any embarrassment in employing his approach, which reflected a mindfulness that is not affiliated with any school or previous or updated curriculum.
