Abstract
The nuniyya by Abul Baqa al- Rundi is one of the famous poems which portrayed the Muslim catastrophe in Andalus. Although this essay reviews other poems on the subject, the nuniyya remains the foremost poem on the subject. Several studies were made on this poem. But the present essay lays special emphasis on historical, psychological, intellectual and technical dimensions. The essay begins with a brief introduction on the poet and his status in Andalusian literature, old and modern critical opinion on the poem, in addition to the text of the poem with reference to original editorial data. The essay considers a number of critical issues which set this poem on a higher level than other poems on the same subject. Its technical structure comprises five stages, interrelated to project the magnitude of the catastrophe. The poet's command of linguistic and stylistic techniques shows a variety of rhetorical devices and sentence structures without enforcement or affectation
