Abstract
The aim of the paper is to study the relationship between the internal migration and distance in Iraq , using the 1997 Population census data . The research shows that there are many interchange streams between the near by Governorate . The relationship between streams will in-crease if will consider the distance as an effective factor except for Baghdad governorate . The Paper shows that the Correlation between migration and distance appeared to be negative. Bagdad Governorate occupied more than half of the total interchange net migration streams between the profitable governorates, the Middle Eu-phrates governorates more than one fifth than streams, and the other govern-orates more one fifth also. Later, the migrants started to migrate to the nearby places because the government limited the migration to Bagdad , after the 1987 Population Census . Finally , the research shows also that there are Patterns of the profitable governorates in the west if Iraq, and another Pattern of the loser governorates Extending to the eastern and southern and parts of Iraq
