Two protein portions from Datura inhibiting the multiplication of PVY “were obtained by filtration through sephadex G - 100. The first was maintained its activity at 60 с for 10 min; whereas the other lost its activity at this temp. The SDS- polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis of the heat resistant one revealed the presence of 8 polypeptides with molecular weights; 12000 , 13000 , 22000 , 25000 , 29000 , 40000 and two other of smaller molecular weights . No serological reaction was ovserced between these proteins and the antiserum of PVA, PVS, PVM, PVX and PVY. No precipitate was observed when the virus was mixed with a suspension of these proteins which inيindicated that these proteins were unable to precipitate the virus. It was found that the treatment of the plants by a suspension of the stable proteins 24 hours before the inoculation with PVY or mixed with the virus at the moment of the inoculation leads to prevention of the infection. Whereas, the treatment of the plants 24 hours after the inoculation with PVY leads to delay of the development of infection 20 days compared to 13 days with the virus alone. Result showed that these proteins possess the capacity of inhibiting the infection before the entrance of PVY into the tissue, but not after its multiplication
