China’s Tryst with Soft Power Diplomacy in the 21st Century

Abstract

China is attempting to harness the soft power of its country by adopting various foreign policies especially since the Hu Jintao period and later on under the incumbent President Xi Jinping. Therefore, an attempt has been made in the research paper to study the various policies adopted by China under the Presidentship of Hu Jintao and Xi Jinping and their impact on the world community. The research paper has also explored the multiple dimensions of foreign policy initiatives in light of the soft power of China in a detailed manner. The alleged criticism of the West against China by dubbing its policies under the categorisation of “Sharp Power” has also been delved deeper for the further discussion. The controversial decisions taken by the United States under the Donald Trump administration and its impact on China’s global soft power image has also been explored. Moreover, all the obstacles which are hindering the soft power prospects of China have been evaluated in a detailed manner. The study would help in understanding the intricacies of Chinese soft power policies and its repercussions on the world community.
