Abstract

This research discusses the fundamentals and obstacles of the religious and cultural tourism development in Hadhramout Governorate, as one of the most important types of tourism. The aim of this study was to determine the basic requirements needed by this type of tourism through studying the elements of developing the religious and cultural tourism in Tarim City. The city was chosen because of its famous palaces, castles, and historical forts. Tarim is also famous for its prominent scientific and religious center founded in the 4th century A.H., the presence of libraries, such as the Al-Kaf Library, the religious institutes(Rabat Tarim), and a number of religious shrines, such as (Prophet Hud’s Tomb). This study aimed to study the requirements versus the obstacles of the development of the religious and cultural tourism in Tarim city, and then suggest some solutions. To achieve this purpose, the researchers used the analytical approach to analyze the situation there using the quadrilateral analysis (SWOT). Consequently, the researchers determined the strengths, the weaknesses, the opportunities, and the threats. Thus, the study suggests some solutions that could upgrade the efficiency of this city and increase the number of tourists in this local area.
