Abstract

The goal of this study is to determine the relationship and the influence of the usage of the second generation of e-government technology in government organizations on information transparency and employees’ satisfaction on administrative process in Dammam city in Saudi Arabia. To achieve this goal, the study relied on the social survey method. The sample size started with 411 employees and ended with 159 employees after classifying the respondents based on the use of the second generation of e-government technology at their organizations. Data was collected by a questionnaire; the reliability and validity of the questionnaire has been verified. To answer the research questions and test the hypotheses, a simple linear regression analysis, in addition to a variety of statistical measures, have been adopted. Based on the respondents’ point of view, the study concludes that there is a positive relationship between the usage of the second generation of e-government technology in one side, and information transparency, and employees’ satisfaction on administrative process in the other side. The study also finds that there is a statistical significant influence of the usage of the second generation of e-government technology on both variables: information transparency and employees’ satisfaction on administrative process. Based on the results of this study, a set of recommendations are presented. First, there is a persistent need for using the second generation of e-government technology in government organizations. Second, encouraging employees and other beneficiaries to use the second generation of e-government technology continuously is highly important. Finally, conducting specialized training courses that assist employees in learning how to take advantage of the second generation of e-government technology in applying transparency principles is also essential.
