Abstract

This study aims to reflect on the historical development of the content of the history textbooks in Jordan between 1921 and 2018. The study was conducted between October 2018 and September 2020. The study followed the descriptive analytical approach by using an observation card. The population of the study consisted of all history textbooks approved by the Ministry of Education over the period of 1921- 2018 and which are available in the Jordanian Textbook Museum. The results of the study showed the characteristics of the history textbooks in general educational stages, and the features of their historical development in each education stage. The results also identified the textbooks shared by more than one school stage, or those shared between a school stage and after the school stage. In addition, the results showed the mechanisms of printing, evaluating, and handling typographical errors. The study presented a set of recommendations, the most important one is representing some topics that were raised in history textbooks, according to the necessities and challenges of contemporary life.
