Abstract
This is an extensive study of the book of Poetry and Poets by Ibn Qutaybah. The study provides an analysis of the traditional poetry critique presented in the book, highlighting the position of the given book’s criticism from the current scientific rubrics and its compatibility with the general taste of the fine-art discipline. The proposed study adopted descriptive and analytical approaches. The book under examination is considered one of the first sources of poets and poetry, including the biography of well-known poets with a representative selection from their poetry. The author elaborated on and compared between different selections of poets and provided useful analysis and critique of their poetry. The author introduced with a brief about poetry detailing the different types, weaknesses of each type and the pioneers poets in the history of poetry.
