Al Jinan الجنان
Abstract
The letter talks about the Andalusian traveler Ibn Jubeir, who visited Syria and Lebanon on his journey to the Pilgrimage of the Holy House of God, where I chose from this trip Syria and Lebanon, and to see the most important Syrian and Lebanese cities he visited. We then show the beautiful images mentioned by Ibn Jubeir in describing each city of cities, nature, air, antiquities and social customs of its people uniquely, entering Manbij, Aleppo, Ma'rat al-Numan, Hama, Homs, Damascus, Tibnin, Banias, Mount Lebanon and Tyre.
Ibn Jubeir was creative in portraying the beauty of Syria, the magic of its nature, the purity of its atmosphere, its abundance of greenery, its bounties, the sweetness of its waters, as well as all the cities he saw.
Ibn Jubeir also excelled in demonstrating the greatness of man in the making of civilization by highlighting the landmarks of cities from the description of mosques, castles, walls, doors, towers and markets in each city, and the spread of boxes in all roads between Manbij and Aleppo to Damascus for the comfort of travelers, which indicates the civilized sophistication of man in building civilizations. Ibn Jubeir portrayed the large number of schools and practices in cities, indicating the scientific and medical progress in Syria in that time period. He also portrayed the customs, traditions
kindness of their people and their adherence to their Islamic religion and virtuous morals. He went on to describe Mount Lebanon as rich in goodness and the customs of its Christian family in helping the muslims who are cut off, indicating peaceful coexistence between them.
He then went on to photograph the beauty of tyre city, its castles, markets and port, which are still under the rule of the Franks, which Allah called for their liberation from their hands.
