Abstract

This study aimed to measure the level of skills in reading and understanding geographical maps and assigning them of the Eleventh Grade Literary Track students at Nasser bin Abdullah Al-Attiyah Secondary School for Boys in the book "Geography", where a pre-skill test consisting of 30 questions was built to measure the level of students in reading and understanding geographical maps. After determining the school in which the experiment will be applied, the Eleventh Grade Literary Division (5), which consists of 28 students and which the researcher taught, was chosen. The data used was analyzed through the T-test to process the results of the research and to calculate the equivalence of groups in the previous experiences of the pre-skill test, where the arithmetic mean and the t-test (One Sample t-test) for each group were extracted to measure the level of their performance in the skills of geographical maps in order to answer the first question compared to the mark 65%, and also calculate the significance of statistical differences between the average scores of the post-test that study the subject of the World Regional Geography unit three according to the use of the skill of reading and understanding maps and the average scores of the pre-test that teaches the first unit of the same subject according to the usual method and to answer the second question in order to compare students' achievement in the test Pre-test and post-test through extraction of the Paired Sample t- test. The results showed a low level of students' performance in the pre-skill test, where the arithmetic average of students' performance in the extent to which they acquired the skills of reading and understanding maps was 10.73 of 30, which is less than the educationally acceptable level of 20 of 30 degrees. The results also showed the superiority of students in the post-test, for the student has acquired the skill of reading and understanding the map through worksheets to train students on the skills of the geographical map as well as the use of educational and technological means that help achieve behavioral goals such as illustrated lessons and various objective maps, in addition to the use of interactive technological means such as Word Wall, Purpose Games and Quizzes.
